Context

Latinx Heritage Month 2023 was themed "Creciendo Con Amor," growing with love. Less than 10% of the student population identifies as Latinx, so the campaign had a real job: visibility and belonging for a community that doesn't always see itself on campus.


The Wreath

The team at MICA (Multicultural Involvement & Community Advocacy Committee) at STAMP already knew what they wanted in the design. They asked for cultural plants like the hibiscus, the flor de izote, and cacti, but they weren't sure what shape it should all take. I proposed a wreath because it signifies unity and love, and I shaped it into a heart with the cacti holding it up.




Across the Month

I kept the palette warm and inviting, a peach ground with deep maroon type, because I wanted the celebration to feel welcoming. The identity carried across posters, a full calendar of events, digital signage, and t-shirts.




Afterword

Seeing everyone in the shirts at the kickoff cookout made me so happy, and this campaign taught me the part of the job I now care about most. The community already had everything the design needed: the plants, the theme, the feeling. My job was to listen and give it a shape.
